The Lovers Leap Division of our Pedro Tea Garden produces a tea, which has a light golden hue with an aromatic bouquet and is branded as “Lovers Leap”. Nestled in the Mahagastotte Valley at an elevation of 1,900 metres above mean sea level within close proximity to Piduruthalagala (2,524 metres), the highest mountain in Ceylon.
The legend has it that a Kandyan Prince (Kandy being the largest kingdom of Ceylon ) fell in love with a maiden of a lower caste.
When it came to the King’s knowledge, the lovers took to flight from the King’s soldiers and sought refuge in the Mahagastotte Valley Valley, and was since known as a hideaway for lovers.
The mountain air with its fragrance of the abundant cypress groves and the pungency of the ever present wild mint and eucalyptus trees not only invokes romance to the valley but also contributes to producing the Champagne of Ceylon Teas.
