Our Halgolla Tea Garden produces a thick coloured tea with a robust flavour. The tea garden is at the foothills of “Weeping Rock” at an elevation of 1,060 metres above man sea level. The lush tea bushes are a result of the high rainfall experienced in Kelani Valley.
During Second World War, the British Army occupied the highest point of the garden, as this strategic location gave a panoramic view of the surrounding areas of the region. It also had a radar station, and artifacts of this occupation still remain at this location.
The occupied part of the garden was abandoned during this period but has now been replanted to its former glory. The tea produces a honey coloured brew with a rich aroma that can be enhanced with a dash of milk.
